5 Tips for New oDesk Freelancer’s

1) Read oDesk Contractor Policies: Before you start freelancing at oDesk, It is compulsory to know the basic’s of oDesk ( How it works ) There rules and regulations. So spend some time and it will be worth doing it in the long run.

2) Set Up oDesk Profile: Try to grab clients attention at first sight.  Add as much keywords and skills sets as possible. Showcase your strengths and highlight the qualities that you posses in your arsenal.

3) Create Strong Portfolio: To get jobs quickly at oDesk you need a solid portfolio that can represent your skills. Try to put forward the best work samples you have. If you are absolutely new at this freelancing field then do some research and create some demo samples. Without samples your chances of getting an Interview is very low.

4) Apply To Right Jobs: Do not apply to jobs that you are not fit for, it will be a waste of your job quota. As the quota is limited at oDesk you need to spend it wisely.

5) Make Short Term Plans: You need to have a goal in order to move forward. Set small achievable milestones. Start with getting one or two small jobs and try to give your 100% and get 5 star feedback from clients. This will help you to break the fear factor and build lot of self confidence. Then as you move along update your skills at different categories. Always try to learn new stuffs and from time to time do some experiments and figure out what work best for you.

Freelancing is not for everyone! It requires immense passion and long term commitment. Are you ready for it… Think twice before you make your next move…

How you will decide that weather full time freelancing is for you or not?

Today, I Will Share 5 Simple Signs That Will Tell You Are Ready For It Or Not…

#1 You Have No Skills: If you don’t have any skill sets then soon you will find yourself in trouble. Many people think that freelancing is very easy stuff – you can join today and start earning from tomorrow! This is not the case. You have to have some skills otherwise freelancing is not for you.

#2 You Are Not Organised: This is a very important aspect of freelancing. You have to be very organised and must know how to do time management. Otherwise it will be really hard to survive. As you will be working at multiple projects and at time it’s very difficult to keep up.

#3 You Hate Being Alone: You always need guidance from others. You can’t make decisions on your own. You need feedback on regular basis to carry out your work then may be you are not ready yet for full time freelancing.

#4 You Are Afraid Of Criticism: If you are not bold enough to handle criticism then you will suffer a lot in the field of Freelancing. Many a times you will find some lunatic clients who are very aggressive & harsh in their approach. If you don’t have the courage to face them then you will be in trouble.

#5 You Quit Too Early: If you quit too soon then freelancing is not for you. Many people tried freelancing and when they have faced any obstacles they quit immediately without giving it a shot. (If you are one of those types) then may be full time freelancing is not an option for you – Try something Else.

When you will consider all the above 5 factors then you can honestly judge weather you are ready or not for full-time freelancing.

5 Freelancing Mistakes

Many new freelancers have asked me the same question again and again…

We bid a lot at oDesk but no client hire us – Why???

Well, the answer is very simple – Go back to your oDesk profile and take a look and you will find the following mistakes…

Bad Profile Picture: There is a saying that First impression is the last impression. So, you must portray a nice looking picture at your profile. Do not put Facebook Pictures. Try to make it look professional.

No Portfolio: This is a common mistake made by the freelancers they do not add their work samples in the portfolio. Work samples represent your skills and your knowledge. So, take time and prepare attractive portfolio.

Spelling Mistakes: While writing overview of your profile avoid spelling mistakes. Clients hate to see silly errors and thinks you will do the same if they hire you. So, before sending emails or cover letter check it twice.

No Reference: Testimonials are very important so always put clients reference in the cover letter.

No Sale: As a freelancer you have to represent your skills in such a way that clients will be forced to hire you. Tell them about your good qualities – how you will help them to get the job done and most importantly why you are better then the rest.

Hope this will help you to come up with a more organized profile.

Best of Luck

Bidding Too Low At oDesk – Good Or Bad!

Low Bid At oDesk.

Many freelancers prefer to bid very low at jobs when they start their career at oDesk. So, the question is - Bidding Too Low - Is It Good Or Bad In the Long Run!

First of all you need to look inside and find your core strengths then you decide how much value you will add to the project. Working at a cheap rate will have a negative impact in the long run.

You will find it really difficult to raise your hourly rates on projects. Clients always check the track record of the contractors. So, if they see that you have already worked on a similar project at $3 and now for the same type of project you are asking for $6. They will decline your bid – No matter how good you are… It’s a typical human nature.

Therefore, before you start freelancing at any particular sector Ex- Administrative,  Sales & Marketing, Web Designing etc. Do a quick research at Google and find out what’s the current rate for that particular task. This will help you to get a clear picture of your work value and you can plan and move on accordingly.

Believe me if you are skilled at a particular task and if you love what you do…

Then you don’t need to run after money, money will run after you.

Few Points To Consider:

Not Investing in Your Skills: If you are skilled at something then you always need to upgrade yourself and keep up with the ever changing working trends. Join related groups at Facebook, LinkedIn to get recent updates.

Not Leaving A Market You’ve Outgrown: If you have become an expert at something and you have done it all.. Then it’s time to move out to something new and exciting. This strategy works like magic and you will have a good time learning new stuffs and exploring new experiences.

Lack Of Confidence Level: You always need to be confident about yourself. Live on the edge and do not get afraid to try new things and do crazy stuffs. Try something different…

I personally like to experiment a lot with the things i do and so far i have been successful 8/10 times. One thing you need to understand you have chosen freelancing at your own will not by force and you are not a 9-5 office slave, So Learn to Enjoy the Freedom.

Be Brave And Try Out Something New Today…
